HVAC Cleaning

Cleaning the heating, ventilating, and air system (HVAC) is essential for every business. It provides a cleaner environment for customers and employees, reduces and stops mold growth, and ensures a more pleasant atmosphere overall. For commercial kitchens, a clean HVAC can also mean the difference between serving food and having their doors shut by a health inspector.

SERVPRO offers commercial grade HVAC cleaning services for kitchens in restaurants and hotels. We follow all FDA and Tennessee health and food serving standards. We have also developed a schedule for cleaning depending on kitchen use by hours per day. We define a heavy-use kitchen as one operating at least 12 to 16 hours per day. This usage requires a thorough cleaning at least once per quarter. A moderate-use kitchen runs about 6 to 12 hours per day, and its HVAC needs cleaning every other month. A kitchen that operates about 2 to 6 hours per day is considered light-use and requires only an annual cleaning. Insurance companies may require additional cleanings depending on their standards.

A proper HVAC cleaning requires specialized equipment. Accomplishing this job cannot be done with a mop tied to a long pole and a bucket of soapy dishwater. We start the process by setting up negative air machines to force stagnant air and particles out and then use a mechanical agitation device to scrub the walls of the HVAC ductwork. If needed, technicians have the option to use power washing wands and steam cleaners as well.

While this happens, other team members clean the blowers, exhaust fans and other components of the air handling unit. Here, as with the duct cleaning, we are looking for any sign of mold contamination. If found, mold spores are scrubbed clean using an anti-fungal agent and vacuumed away using special HEPA filters to ensure removal of the contamination. Upon work completion, our inspectors check everything to make sure the HVAC meets not just health standards, but local fire codes as well.

It is not necessary for a disaster to happen before calling SERVPRO of South Nashville. Besides remediation and repair, we work with our fellow residents and business owners to keep their doors open and serving the community. If you are not certain if your HVAC is up to standards, call us today at (615) 331-0200 for a free inspection. We are here to help.
