Spring Cleaning: Beware of the hazards of burning yard debris
3/9/2022 (Permalink)
The sun is shining, and the birds are singing - it's finally Spring! Time to clean up all of that yard debris from winter. But be careful when burning this foliage. Throwing leaves, pine needles, and other Spring debris into a fire can result in an unanticipated fire due to floating embers. So before you light that match, make sure you read these safety tips from SERVPRO of South Nashville!
When burning outdoors, be sure to:
-Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby in case of fire
-Make sure the area is clear of any flammable objects
-Never leave a fire unattended
-Avoid burning during high winds
-Make sure the fire is completely out before leaving the area
When burning yard debris, always be aware of the potential for floating embers to start a fire. Embers can fly up to 100 feet away from the main fire, and they can easily ignite nearby items like grass, bushes, or even your home. So always make sure you have a water source nearby to extinguish any potential flames. And never leave a burning fire unattended!
